The Sommerset-Bridlewood community association is proud to announce our new campaign to raise awareness and hand deliver community care packages to residents in the community.
By engaging face to face with residents and talking to them about the community, we can answer questions, generate interest in community activities, find volunteers, increase community support, and leave people with the knowledge that their community is actively working to make things better. Our new care packages provide information on community resources, services, local attractions, planned events, and a list of membership perks. We've also included a survey for residents and a call for memberships, which explains our plans and ideas for improving the community. |
Online Community Care Package
The following is a more thorough and updated version our community care package.
1. Community Services & Business Directory
SBCA maintains a directory for community services. In it, you'll find all kinds of services and resources, such as...
We also maintain a directory of businesses and services, which is currently more up-to-date than even google maps.
We encourage you to go through them, to see what you might be missing out on.
- Crime reporting forms
- Career coaching services
- Meals programs
- Garbage and recycling information
- Senior's help and resources hotline

We encourage you to go through them, to see what you might be missing out on.
2. Local Attractions
We are pleased to provide a listing of local attractions to show what this area has to offer and to encourage residents to explore their community. Mix things up by trying out a unique attraction in your community.
3. Call for Memberships
Our Community Association works hard to provide residents with events, programs, and activities. However, we would like to do much more, and we have big plans for the future.
Initially, we would like to put on larger events such as:
We would also like to help create and support community groups or activities like:
If we gained enough support, we could create community initiatives such as:
Eventually, we would like to have our very own community centre, where we can host events, courses, open houses, open mikes, and town hall meetings. This would greatly help provide culture, entertainment, and opportunities for all our residents.
Unfortunately, we currently lack the funds and professional support for these endeavours. We all volunteer, giving up our own time to help the community, and the current overhead is too large to support these new ideas and plans.
If you like to see these ideas and plans in your community, please consider buying a membership and volunteering.
With your support, we look forward to making Somerset and Bridlewood a great, vibrant community.
Initially, we would like to put on larger events such as:
- Movie Nights
- Career Fairs
- Large summer events like this year's Spring Fling
We would also like to help create and support community groups or activities like:
- Board Game Nights - Such as our very own: SBCA Board Game Night
- Artist Collectives - Communities of artists that share knowledge, tools and space
- Industry Groups - Groups and organizations dedicated to a particular field of work. Examples include teachers associations, user groups,
- Local Markets - In addition to the market events we put on at the Cardel Rec building, we would like to see independent crafter's markets and farmers markets become available for our community.
- Makerspaces - As the name suggests, maker spaces are places to come to make things using new technologies, fabrication tools and collaborative efforts. Calgary already has three: Protospace, . Unfortunately, there are none currently near our community.
- Special Interest Groups - Groups of people passionate about a particular area of interest. Examples include book clubs, chess clubs, sports groups, . We hope to see our community become a vibrant hub for learning, teaching, discovery, and self improvement.
If we gained enough support, we could create community initiatives such as:
- Tools Libraries - Just what the name suggests: libraries for tools. The Bridgeland/Riverside community association already has the Calgary Tool Library.
- Public Space Projects - Wouldn't it be great if Somerset and Bridlewood had areas similar to The Bridges in Bridgeland, or Public Art Projects to make us stand out? Public space projects are a great way to increase the value of your community.
- Renewable Energy Projects - With an average of 2,396 hours of sunlight each year, Calgary is an ideal city for solar technology. Many public facilities in Calgary are powered by solar, including our very own Water Park.
Eventually, we would like to have our very own community centre, where we can host events, courses, open houses, open mikes, and town hall meetings. This would greatly help provide culture, entertainment, and opportunities for all our residents.

most important in the community. Please take a moment to let us know your thoughts on your community.
